lyrics

( 16 bars music/guitar solo )
***2-They got the police and they got the jails-
And the judges and lawyers and soldiers and all the rest of them,
( ooh )
They got the police and they got the jails-
And the judges and lawyers and soldiers and all the rest of them,
× 2***
1.5-There's no such thing as crime as the word is understood,
People inside jails can't help being on the inside,
Outside the people, they can't help it either,
" People are in jails you see because they're supposed to be, "
1.5-They're in jails simply because they can't avoid it-
On the account of circumstances beyond their control,
There ought to be no jails and if it were not for the fact-
Of the people on the outside, so heartless when they do their dealings,
1.5-In a sense, everyone is equally good, equally bad,
We do the best we can under the circumstance,
There may be some of you who would hold me up in the street,
If you didn't have anything else to to do and you needed the money,
1.5-Yet, when I want to light my office or my house-
The gas company charges me $1 when it's worth a quarter,
And still these people are great people, their pillars to society-
And yes they are respectable, but Look What Have They Done-
***2-They got the police and they got the jails-
And the judges and lawyers and soldiers and all the rest of them,
2-They got the police and they got the jails-
And the judges and lawyers and soldiers and all the rest of them,
× 2*** ( rah )
1.5-Let us see, if there's a connection-
Between the criminals of the common classes and your presence,
1.5-Many are in jail you see for committing a burglary,
In the meaning of law, you've taken one's property,
1.5-Some so-called criminals,
I speak on criminals who get caught, instead of the one's doing the catching,
Are in jail cause you didn't have a good lawyer,
You didn't have enough money, to pay a good lawyer,
1.5-Your case gets tried in 15 to 20 minutes,
But, if you was rich though, this be about 20 days,
Oh' this thing on property, you must protect your property-
Because in this world, property is more important than your life,
1.5-So the people with property they fix it-
Oh I get it, so they can protect what they have,
***2-They got the police and they got the jails-
And the judges and lawyers and soldiers and all the rest of them,
2-They got the police and they got the jails-
And the judges and lawyers and soldiers and all the rest of them,
They got the police and they got the jails-
And the judges and lawyers and all the rest of them***
1.5-It's now so easy for me to see to do away with crime,
2.5-Give people a chance to live,
Give people a chance to live and make conditions fair in life-
Nobody would burglarize if their house was full,
1.5-Nobody would steal if they could get something an easier way,
There shouldn't be no jails here me when I say,
As long as men are allowed to monopolize all of this Earth-
And compel others to live on such a term-
4.5-As these men see fit, then you are bound to go to jail-
I see no danger in a rich man going to jail,
So now this system has failed,
The poorest man should have a lawyer just as good as the richest,
1.5-A lack of charity from the people on the outside-
Who make these jails and fill them with the victims of their greed,
There shouldn't be no jails, do you see the truth-
I'm saying, looka-looking at what they do,
1.5-There is a greater crime than all the people in jail-
Ever committed and it's happening going on everyday,
***2-They got the police and they got the jails-
And the judges and lawyers and soldiers and all the rest of them,
2-They got the police and they got the jails-
And the judges and lawyers and soldiers and all the rest of them,
× 2*** .
